There's a New Fanny Pack in Town
I've been making (and wearing) fanny packs for a looong time. My first pack was one I made during an interview for a design internship while I was in college. The pack was pretty bad. Despite not really knowing what I was doing, I got the internship.
Flash forward to about 10 years ago - I was to be vending at a local artisan faire and I wanted to sell some "fashion" fanny packs. At that time they were unheard of as a *fashion* accessory, still relegated as a nerdy 80's throwback (which was fine by me!) My fanny packs turned out cute, but not super functional, as I designed them quickly to be sewn as easily as possible.
Flash forward again to this past year. When I launched American Happy I decided to once again make fashion fanny packs in my preferred aesthetic of colorful vintage fabrics. This time however, I spent weeks developing the patterns for the sizes and shapes of fanny packs that were stylish, comfortable, and most importantly, functional. A fanny pack that's not functional is just another useless fashion accessory. And that's not what I'm about.
In these past ten years, I've never stopped wearing various fanny packs as part of my personal style - they are my favorite functional accessory and I encourage you to give it a try (if you don't already!)
